MACEDONIA from March 20 to 23

March 21 - Conference in the Municipality of Strumica

We would like to thank the hosts of “Jane Sandanski” Secondary School in Strumica for the excellent organization of the tribune on the topic “Inclusive practice in the educational system”,as well as the great speakers and other partner schools. This was also an opportunity to exchange experiences about inclusion in education, through which we saw great similarities and small differences in the problems faced by each of the participating countries. We heard a lot about system solutions that work well in Macedonia, and we hope that some of them can be implemented in other systems.

March 21 – Outdoor activity
Thanks to the initiators of this event, the Down’s Syndrome Association “Vera” from Strumica, we had the opportunity to meet with the students and teachers of “Jane Sandanski” Secondary School in Strumica, as well as other partners who participate in the project ” From disability to visibility”.All of us celebrated World Down Syndrome Day, which is held on March 21 every year. In this way, we sent an important message that every person deserves equal rights and equal opportunities in society, which is one of the main priorities of inclusion

After the outdoor activity, we moved to the school premises where the debate was held – empowering people with developmental disabilities with a special focus on the life of people with Down syndrome.

March 22 – It was a very creative day. We met with students, parents, teachers, hosts and our partners in the courtyard of the school in order to give the students of “Sveti Sava” Primary School a chance to express themselves creatively in a new environment. We painted, drew and colored in inclusive groups and children especially liked painting pots. We celebrated World Down Syndrome Day yesterday and this was very creative way to mark the beginning of spring.

Mothers of students that attend “Sveti Sava” Primary School were pleasantly surprised how their children accepted new tasks and how much they were willing to cooperate in the unfamiliar environment, with unfamiliar people. The atmosphere at the workshop was excellent and children from Šabac were very creative. It turned out that the outdoor activity was an excellent choice this time as well, because children felt very comfortable and free in nature, which is a prerequisite for creativity, again bearing in mind that students who participated are autistic (one verbal and one non-verbal student). The results of the workshop are beautiful pots painted with different motifs, which we used to brighten up the first day of spring for all the project participants, who clearly enjoyed themselves.

At the end of the workshop, the school principal handed out certificates of participation to everyone, where our last activity within this mobility officially ended. We were full of impressions and couldn’t wait for the next gathering, which is scheduled for April in Romania.
